This cartoon shows the pastor Terry Jones, a small Florida pastor who made headline because of his plans to burn the Holy Book of Muslims the Qur’an on 9/11. The cartoon shows Jones contemplating on whether to burn citing he wanted to “pray on it”, more like the pressure from all sides of the spectrum, telling him it’s probably not a good idea. Another force in this tumultuous situation was the media who covered the story as shown in the cartoon, who extensive coverage of this ignorant, buffoon has only stirred more fuel for the fire.Sure the pastor is entitled to his beliefs but, this act had serious repercussion the safety of US forces, international relations, religious relation, all really volatile situations. On the other hand any individual who would have the audacity, the responsibility to spark so much uproar/outrage take some kind of courage or lunacy few would ever reach. Overall is was a ridiculous circus combining a naive, ignorant small town pastor and the “extravagant machine” that is media, there said i think just because a person has the right to do something doesn’t necessarily mean they should do it; there’s always a consequence to one’s action.

In this political cartoon it shows two elderly person sitting down. She was telling her husband ‘how do we protect themselves from these blood suckers’ . he replies ” read the fine print on the credit card bill”. I agree with this cartoon because bedbugs are talking over and the arent easy to get rid off. Thats why i think he replied saying to read the credit card bill . Paying lots of money is how you can protect and get rid of bedbugs .

This cartoon basically shows how the arizona immigration law has affected immigrants.
The two people at the bottom are sayin “See what happens when you ask for papers” Which clearly shows that immigrants are afraid and they are aware that if they try to become legal it would be denied. It also shows how immigrants have a fear of being deported. This cartoon gives the viewers a glimpse of how unfair it is to be an immigrant. In my opinion, i think it is irrational to have immigration laws like these when the United States of America is filled with immigrants one way or another. There should be a different way to treat the situation or at least offer an opportunity to those immigrants who have worked for years and haven’t violated any laws.

In this political cartoon my reaction towards it is that people how are trying to get houses sold as fastest they can because of the down fall in our economy today.
the many pickets sign are very self explanatory , also at the bottom of the “For Sale” sign “SOS” is shown , this is out of the ordinary because sales people don’t usually use this , This shows exaggeration.

Summary and Reaction: The political cartoon was a about a mother obviously extremely happy that her kids are back in school because in that panel she’s jumping for joy, happy that she doesn’t have to deal with them. The reason you know she’s happy that her kids are back to school is because the woman asked. My reaction, mothers aren’t the only one happy that their kids are back to school but also some kids. Even though the reasons may be the different or in some cases the same. (The cartoon is the acronym for laugh out loud worthy.)

I picked this cartoon mainly because I found it funny. Plus, it shows reality, it is so expensive to attend college nowadays and is tough for parents to pay for it. And if they do, they put all their savings into it. I also picked it because that’s one of my worries at the moment, will I be able to afford going to college ?

This political cartoon doesn’t surprise me. Although it says that troops have left that doesn’t necessarily mean that the war in Iraq is over. As you can see the man on the right side is sleeping and not paying attention because its all been said before and the war continues.

In his political cartoon i could tell that many people are scared to go to college because of the fincial aids. since colleges are so expensive many students are not being able to finish or start college. In this catoon for me the credit card stand for the debits that many students in college have. Another reactin i get from this picture is that many students are running away from paying these debits they have.

This cartoon shows that by burning Holy book of Muslims ( Qur’an ) won’t make anyone happy but it will increase more hatred towards Non Muslims. Burning Qur’an won’t create a peaceful world but it will create more problems. Taliban but all Muslim Country will fight for their Islam. Hatred is increasing as well as tension between Muslims and non Muslims.

This cartoon is somewhat funny& so ture.when school comes around every kid has their mind on going to the mall to get new clothes. They are so worried on how they are going to look for school more then on what they need for classes(books, pencials etc). Now a trip to the drug store no longer happens cause
now its a trip to the MALL!!

  12. September 12, 2010 at 8:17 pm

In my opinion what this political cartoon is referring to is that the United States went out to war and after finding those who were responsible for the tragic 9/11 they still stayed there for many years, being unfair to our troops. My reaction to this cartoon was that i couldnt agree more. It makes sense to me i think there were too many years being misused and wasted over at Iraq. In the cartoon you can see a Iraqui holding a weapon which is a sign of terrorism while the U.S troops leave their country implying that maybe thats how these people will stay , although the army theyve was there for a long time doesnt mean any changes are made.

I couldn’t help but laugh when I saw this. In this cartoon, you see a news reporter and he wants to interview this octopus but he can’t. He wants to ask the octopus a question referring to BP and the oil spill. Ironically enough, the octopus is dead thanks to BP and the oil spill. This cartoon shows that the artist does not think that BP’s new cap will stop the oil spill. I really liked this cartoon because it just shows you the reality of what is happening due to the BP oil spill, the worst oil spill in history.

this cartoon is about peace that people dont want no more fighting every one wants all the people that are from palestine and isreal to have a middle east peace to talk alot of people want them to shake hands but maybe they dont want to beacuse of everything they have done..

  15. September 12, 2010 at 6:54 pm

The Cagle cartoon typifies moms as mothers who do not want to be around their children all year long. They school year takes away their burden of caring for their children all day. The summer is like hell for them as they cook, clean and entertain their children. Mothers refer to the school bus “the answer to their prayers” because it sends their kids off to a place where they are someone elses responsibility.

I think that, that is wrong!! Don’t have kids if you want them to be someone else’s responsibility. That’s really wrong!

The political cartoon that I chose is under the category of “Bad Eggs”. This particular image caught my attention because the artist gave this serious problem a touch of humor. In the cartoon there are 4 customers, one pair is “dead” because they ate bad eggs, from the catoon I infer that the other pair wanted eggs as well, so the waitress asked the other pair if they wanted the same eggs that the “dead” customers had. From the cartoon we know that the other customers don’t want the eggs(they their expression). Having bad eggs is a seriouse problem but the artist add humor into this problem. I like this cartoon because it informs the viewer the seriouse effect of bad eggs but the touch of humor will relax the viewer.

This cartoon is a pretty blatant statement about Obama’s Stimulus plan being a failure. And the plan (as illustrated) Hits America over the head. Plan is to borrow money and pay higher interest to keep America on its feet till the next plan comes around. The money’s probably going to be borrowed from China and Most products Americans purchase anyway are made in China. So its basically like “let me borrow money from you and I’ll pay 4 times over”. That’s pretty stupid but it’s supposed to keep the country afloat until…… God knows when. It is a plan that won’t hold long with consequences but hey even the Mona Lisa is falling apart

The cartoon shows a cell phone on the floor with the person on the line saying “Goodnight don’t let the bed bugs bite”. However on the bed there is a bed bug that ate a person. Bedbugs is an epidemic that is taking over all of the United States and is bothering people world wide. I agree with this cartoon because bedbugs are very annoying and are costly to get rid of. Although the quote used is an old saying bed bugs exist and can cause havoc to the owner of a house.

The can is saying that it’s happy that the little boy won’t be kicking it anymore. The little boys mother or grandmother is thankful that he’s going back to school because it’s obvious he’s so bored that he’s kicking a can around and the little boy won’t bother her anymore. I agree with this cartoon because when you’re bored you have nothing to do, when I was a kid I would do the same. I would either nag my mother saying I was bored or kick a ball or a can around.

  20. September 12, 2010 at 4:31 pm

This cartoon emphasizes how soldiers are happy to leave Iraq to come back home.It explains what’s waiting for them here a huge unemployment line with a choice to go back into a new war in Afghanistan. In reaction i think is very realistic. This is what’s happening now and its really sad alot of people have no choice but to go in a war that nobody yet knows what it will accomplish.

  21. September 12, 2010 at 2:09 pm

In this politcal cartoon, it shows that when the United States left Iraq, the Iraqi soldiers felt like they can handle the insurgents themselves. Little did they know, they can’t, and the insurgents are still blowing everything up in Iraq. I think that the U.S. being there to train Iraqi soldiers was a waste of time because they still don’t know how to handle the insurgents. The U.S. didn’t accomplish much being there.

In this political cartoon we see how how Reverend Terry Jones is about to burn the Quran. He is being viewed as a terrorist because of the act he wanted to accomplish. the reason for wanting to burn these books is because of his anti-muslim beleifs, and the fact that the mosque is wanting to be built near gorund zero. In my opinion no one should be against the freedom of religion that everyone in this country has. The idea that this reverend has of the burning of the Quran is outragious because its disrispect to one’s religion.

This political cartoon is about where the economy is at in the United States. The cartoon shows how Obama is suppose to be a hero and help the economy get on its feet again. Instead Obama is just talking about how he is going to help the economy but not doing nothing at all. My reaction to this political cartoon is that I am not really surprised that Obama (the government) are not doing nothing.

  24. September 12, 2010 at 1:47 pm

The image shows how society allows media to portray the way people view things. People shouldn’t judge others based on their orientations. This doesn’t only happen in homosexuality, it also happens in race, gender, etc. I think everyone should be able to live their own life style with out any judgment.

This political cartoon (by Dave Granlund) parodizes America’s curiousity of what events went down on the tragic day of 9-11. It shows the Twin Towers as a huge font of “9-11” at a ground zero type of scenery except set in an Arabic place with archeologists scavenging for clues. Perhaps this political cartoon is used to exploit the fact that there are still missing people who were never found and are most likely dead under the rubble of the two buildings. Maybe it’s poking fun at how Amercia knows why the attack took place and who is responsible yet the media milks the event and puts it off as a mystery never to be solved. We do understand what happened on 9-11 but for some reason we want more out of it, more drama and mystery because that’s what gets the ratings on the news networks and that’s what pulls at the heartstrings of people who did loose loved ones during that awful day.

    3rd picture .

The quote on the third cartoon, summarizes that they made a funny humor on the bad leaders. Also shows how they don’t have any respect for others freedom like in religion. An other theory i have it can also come across a crusade meaning holy wars for burning the bible that belongs to the muslims. Lastly it can all equal to a big catastrophe which can lead to other economic crises.

The political cartoon talks about the troops leaving Iraq. It shows that we fought a 7 1/2 year war for what? Me personally, i still don’t understand why we entered the war in the first place and what we gained from it, besides the death of thousands of young men and maybe even innocent people. Obama promised a with drawl from the war, so i guess we’ll just have to see what happens.

  28. William C.
    September 12, 2010 at 12:05 pm

This cartoon shows that a USA Troop is leaving Iraq and at the beginning he is happy then once he is at home the economic crises in the USA affect them and later on they get unemployed and get a opening offer to go to Afghanistan.

My reaction to this cartoon is that the economic crises in the USA will affect the troops that are going home from Iraq. When they were in Iraq they were getting payed millions now that its all over they will soon get unemployed and suffering of economic crisis.

  29. September 12, 2010 at 11:08 am

This cartoon is about restraint of power. Although you have the power to burn the Quran, does not mean you have right. Its a holy book for the Muslims just like the bible for the Catholics. The burning of religious texts is unacceptable. Obviously if you burn the Qurans, there’s gonna be another war that’s going to break out and this time it could be more worse than the was on Iran was because this it would be strictly religious. I mean if anyone burns religious texts of someone’s beliefs, they would be infuriated. This cartoon depicts that everything should not always be about politics, there still such a thing as right and wrong in this world. You should never say anything before thinking about it first. You gotta remember that religion has created and destroyed many civilizations.

    CARTOON: Ground Zero Mosque

The proposed mosque has been creating controversary for the past couple of months. This cartoon is showing a mosque being built on top of the new tower, that is supposed to be built in memory of the WTC. By creating this cartoon and writing such word around it, it somewhat challenges someone to knock that tower down, since the mosque is a muslim religious place. By saying ” Let’s see any fanatics knock that down,” it sets a sterotype that all and only Muslims are terrorists and it is setting the situation that Muslims will take more advantage of its surrondings. This opinion is wrong and it sets a train of thought that others might have not thought of before.

In this cartoon about bedbugs, the parents are putting their daughter to sleep . As they put her to sleep, they tell her to sleep tight and don’t let the bedbugs bite , which is ironic because the dad is holding a newspaper about the bedbugs comeback. My reaction is that this cartoon is funny and that the girl should really watch out if the bedbugs do bite .

  32. September 11, 2010 at 7:54 pm

I choose this political cartoon because it basically speaks volumes about how as much as social network “connect” a society it also can harm one as well. In my opinion there is no value for such a site as TWITTER since when is asking and informing others of your update so vital when we have other means of communications such a cellphone, telephone, personal meeting etc. Social network also I believe alienate/isolate users which can lead to addiction. To me this political cartoon seems to be mocking both the social network and Obama as something that was suppose to be revolutionary but isn’t any different from the others and sure isn’t working.

    The website link is http://list.cagle.com/etoon.aspx?cartoon=/news/BushTaxCuts/images/bagley.jpg

I could not help but laugh at this cartoon.
Its is a cartoon of Bush riding the horse (Economy), till it dies.
Then his father tells him that he does not know how to ride horses as he holds a saddle that said “Tax-Cuts for the Rich”.
I love the Irony in this cartoon.

  34. September 11, 2010 at 12:10 pm

This cartoon is basically about how the economy is going down and while this is happening the home sales and recovery of the economy are going downhill as well. This is all interpreted by the fact that the economy is represented by a roller coaster and it is the base. While this is being done since the recovery and home sales are basically a major part in the economy they are shown as cars of the rollercoaster and are being animated in to falling down the hill showing that the economy is going down and since roller coasters are fast then therefore the economy is going down quickly as well. My reaction to this is that something really needs to be done about the economy rapidly falling because as being the United States we should have to be living this way, but reality is never a pretty picture.

My response to this cartoon is a positive one. I thought it was funny and I do agree with the message that the artist is trying to convey. Which is to basically learn how to treat the chickens right when they are being raised and maybe our food quality will be better.

Here’s the link for the political cartoon I chose:

This cartoon shows a chicken that was raised like most chickens are raised today. They’re’ raised in a cage without any space. It shows the chicken leaving a salmonella-infested egg and the chicken is saying ” Consider it payback.” This is a humorous way of depicting how badly chickens are treated. Its a way of saying “what goes around comes back around.”

I found this political cartoon to be a slap in the face. It shows that in 7 1/2 years of war with Iraq, they don’t know what was accomplished, because it was such a waste of money and lives. The United states did not gain anything from this war, and I think it was more of a lost. It is about time that it was realized, and that the troops were sent back home. Bush made many mistakes and this was one of them, a war without purpose. Hopefully that “change” does come from Obama, and he has made a smart decision. 🙂

These cartoon shows how the people that suppose to inspect the eggs werent able to see that the eggs werent in a proper position to be sale. And now the people arent able to buy them or eat them. My reactions to these cartoon is that I believe that the inspectors have nothing to do with these. I mean they do there job and I dont think they will be able to send the eggs the way they are.

Moms are excited for they’re kids to start school because they don’t have to worry about them hanging out so much outside. Kids are upset that summer is over because now they have to focus in school and not much on hanging out. My reaction to this is that kids could go to school and could also hang out for a bit, not as much as in the summer though. Parents should also understand that its not always about school, us students could also need a little bit of freedom.

What this cartoon is showing is that instead of the president helping to solve the problems that’s going on. He is making sure that these problems are being ignored. The reason is that it shows that he is not doing or saying what he promised to do. It also shows that they (as the candidates ) don’t do what they promise to the citizens is never or barely accomplished. My reaction to this cartoon is that it is wrong what they are doing. The reason is that they don’t help solve the problem. They just make matters worse and make the problem more worse then it was by ignoring it.

  43. September 9, 2010 at 10:57 pm

In my opinion i think this is a very good news for everyone in this country especially for each different family that had their sons and daughter out there fighting for peace and the proud of this nation are finally here, back home with their family sharing their unforgettable experience.I have to said that when i saw this cartoon i just remember the president Speech talking about this incredible news that brought happiness to everyone. WE CAN FINALLY SAID WAR IS OVER .

  44. September 9, 2010 at 4:24 pm

This cartoon shows current president Obama showing the scientist sunlight after been in a cave that the passed president Bush had them in. He is showing them “the light” the truth about how everything really is and they seem happy to finally see the truth and be able to do their job and investigations.

This political cartoon talks about how we are in a bad economy. All the money we are useing is going to the war and not to the important things we need houses, jobs, books ect. While the vaule of houses is going down and we are loseing jobs.More money is spent on unnecessary things NOT helping our economy.

This political cartoon shows a soilders coming out of a plane, people are in the mud holding signs welcoming them back from the war
I think that this cartoon implys that the U.S. Is spending a lot of money on the war that it is leaving people unemployed
This cartoon basically tells you that people are being “stuck in the mud” with no jobs because of the war.
There is no money to pay employers because it is all going to support the U.S. Troops and the war

  47. September 8, 2010 at 8:38 pm

On the political cartoon obove is about back to school. The mother went to the Doctors and checked out her blood pressure that has improved tremendously because her kids are back in school. Now she has the house to her self 5 days a week alone.

This cartoon made me laugh. Just for the simple fact that this it’s true, well in most cases. The cartoon is basically trying to say that the iPhone 4, apparently one of the best phones out, has service problems. the antenna is built around the phone and when you touch it at a certain spot, it looses service. Thus, the comment it says ” works well if you hold it properly”. Which is true.

  49. September 8, 2010 at 8:17 pm

On my visit to daryl cagle.com i looked up mom,s excited for school .I think the cartoon i have chose was funny and at the same time true because most parents find there kids to be stressful. When the kids are off to school parents have time to relax.

  50. September 8, 2010 at 7:24 pm

In this Daryl Cagle political cartoon it shows a cop and a truck filled with immigrants. As the cop opens the truck he finds immigrants and ask them for there papers. Every single immigrant showed him newspapers of the immigrations law being veto by the judge. My reaction to this sardonically funny cartoon was that i found it rather amusing. As well as that this cartoon gave a very didactic meaning or statement explaining that immigrant are legal in azorina and the law has been veto.
