My new city council member is Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr for area number 32.

    2) Look up “exit polls.” List two main reasons people said they voted for Bloomberg. Also, list two main reasons why people said they voted for Thompson.
Exit Polls: Exit poll is a survey that voters take immediately after they have exited the polling stations.
Bloomberg: One of the reasons why people said they voted for Bloomberg is because he has more experience, he has been in power for 8 years so he has shown how he works and he already knows the city and its problems. Another reason why they voted for Bloomberg is because he helped decrease crime, improve education and public health. Other people voted for him because it makes them feel comfortable that he’s not going to be corrupt because he is a wealthy person.
Thompson: One of the reasons why people voted for Thompson is because people are tired of having Bloomberg for two terms and they wanted to see a change and people felt that Thompson could have brought that change. Another reason why people voted for Thompson is that he said that he was going to help poor people.

    3) Which boroughs had a majority vote for Thompson?
The boroughs that had a majority vote for Thompson were Brooklyn, Bronx, and Queens.

    4) Which boroughs had a majority vote for Bloomberg?
The boroughs that had a majority vote for Bloomberg were Manhattan and Staten Island.

    5) Why was the election so close? Look up two different theories and make sure to include where you got your information from.
The elections were so closed because people wanted a change, they were tired of having Bloomberg for 8 years but most people didn’t wanted to risk all the good things that Bloomberg has done for the city. Another reason why the elections were closed is because Thompson in his campaigns said a lot of good things that he was going to do for the city if he had elected, but Bloomberg catch the attention of people with his commercials talking about his accomplishments.

    2) reasons why people voted for bloomberg…
    – he has experience
    – he’ persistant
reason’s why peoople voted for thompson…
    – they wanted a change
    – they believed in his strategy, and goals for the community

    3) Brooklyn, queens, and the bronx
    4) Staten island, and manhatttan

    5) Thompson was struggling and sometimes inept, that Bloomberg was spending a grotesque amount of money, much of it on negative ads. Yet the overriding tone of the horse-race coverage and commentary — with a handful of exceptions — was that Bloomberg couldn’t possibly lose. The polls, showing Bloomberg with consistent leads in the middle to high teens, were crucial in feeding that perception.

3)the borough that had the majority votes for thompson was Queens, Brooklyn and the Bronxs
4)the borough that had the majority of votes for Bloomberg was Manhattan and staten island
5)The reason why i think the election was so close was because they were both not to much of this and not too much of that, they were both moderate and tolled the people things that consernd them so that they would have more voters (my idea)http://nymag.com/daily/intel/2009/11/smith_three_reasons_why_bloomb.html

Bill Thompson for a change.Another reason was because people wanted a change in laws and he said that he was going to do that

    3) Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx

    4) Staten Island and Manhattan

5)Bloomberg’s two-term record is far from perfect, but still above average. And so the mayor’s thin, five-point margin is a perfect split-decision reflection of how the city feels about him right now: solid approval of his job performance so far, but disgust and revulsion at how Bloomberg has gone about holding on to the job.

it was a very close elections if Bloomberg didnt spend all that money in his campaign i bet he wouldnt be where he is now a lot of the people was confused and didnt know if a change would be better or just stay with what they already have Bloomberg lists his various accomplishments and says if people think they’ve seen progress in these past eight years he says of the next four years, “You ain’t see nothin’ yet!” . i believe by him saying that he convinced the undecided voters

    3) Majority vote for Thompson?
    -Bronx
    -Brooklyn

    4) Majority vote for Bloomberg?

    -Manhattan

    5) Why was the election so close? http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/04/nyregion/04mayor.html?_r=1

-The election might’ve been close because Thompson was not all too familiar with many people and he wasn’t a strong enough candidate to run against Bloomberg in the first place, which is why some/many people just ended up “unhappily” voting for Bloomberg.
This in effect might’ve just lead people to recall the other candidates pros; Bloomberg’s past “accomplishments in education, crime reduction and public health.”

Although Thompson’s lack of experience, and Bloomberg’s own twists on term limits, had turned against themselves, Thompson walked out as admirable for his determination to overcome his difficult opponent’s challenge and Bloomberg had ended up winning a 3rd term. Hence, the election in turn was a close call.

5).With an experience of 8 years,Michael Bloomberg was the right person because he had more experience to the job..But Thompson was going to be his first time and i think that people didnt want to have a mayor that didnt have that much of experience. So with people voting for different reasons thats why this election was extremely close.

People wanted a change in the NY laws. People also voted for him because he said that he was going to do a great change in taxes.
    3)Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens
    4)Staten Island and Manhattan
5)With an experience of 8 years as the NYC governor, Michael Bloomberg was the suitable candidate to win and continue being the governor of New York. Also, Thompson’s career was not very reliable and that his incompetence was not that good to govern and control a state as important as New York.

Mayor Bloomberg won a third term by a 5-point margin. The elections were close becuase the leaders of both campaigns said they knew from the start that Bloomberg was vulnerable which is was why he spent nearly 90 million on his election campaign. Most people thought that Bloomberg had done a good job as mayor and others wanted a change that it why the election was so close.

    1. Our new City Council Member is Julissa Ferreras.
    2. MB: They thought that Mike was doing a good job in office and since he’s so fortunate and adds money of his own for the city they felt it was good for him to stay in office especially now through these rough economic times.
BT: They wanted change for the city, and though Bloomberg wasn’t being traditional by staying for a 3rd term since that’s not how it’s been done throughout the past years.
    3. BT: Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx
    4. MB: Staten Island and Manhattan
    5. The race was so close up because many voters wanted to vote for Bloomberg since his financial status is great for a person who qualifies in their eyes to run a city, but on the other hand Bill Thompsons’ voters saw a few issues with Bloomberg’s’ plans-such as the term limits issue and him being too egotistical- made them want change.
    URL: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/04/nyregion/04mayor.html

Another reason the race was so close was because Thompson didn’t show enough confidence that he was ready to be a mayor. And on the other hand Bloomberg’s’ performance as mayor for the past two terms has been well but at the same time the city feels that the way he’s done it is not appropriate or fair. So that’s why the race was so close up.

Two main reaons people voted for Thompson was because of what he had said on housing and taxes. Also he puts more attention into different people in the city of New York.
3)People in the Bronx and Brooklyn had the majority of votes for Thompson.
4)People in Manhattan Queens and Staten Island had the majority of votes for Bloomberg.
5)Bloomberg’s meager five-point win left Democrats pondering what might have been if New York’s Democratic donors hadn’t turned their back on Thompson, if its politicians had worked for him, and most of all if President Barack Obama had offered anything more than the lamest words of praise.

1.who is your city council member?
    -Julissa Ferreras
2.”Exit polls”- A poll of a sample of voters as they leave a polling place used sepecially to predict the outcome of an election or determine the opinions and characteristics of the candidates’ supporters.
List two main reasons people said they voted for Bloomberg. Also, list two main reasons why people said they voted for Thompson.
-one reason why people voted for Bloomberg was because he kept us from going under on 9/11. He forced a budget on the city and an 18% property tax hike which he ended as soon as things were getting better.
-Alos he has made smokers impose on society and driven smoking onto New York’s endangered species list and strongly discouraged underage smoking when people have the least ability to resist adopting self-destructive habits.
-A reason why people voted for Thompson was because they wanted to make a change and felt that Bloomberg has been mayor for too long.
3.which boroughs had a majority vote for Thompson?
    – Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx
4.which borough had a majority vote for Bloomberg?
    Staten Island and Manhattan.
5.why was the election so close?Look up two different theories and make sure to include where you got your information from.
-Billionaire Michael Bloomberg won a third term as New York mayor Tuesday in a closer-than-expected race against a Democratic challenger who stoked voter resentment over the way Bloomberg changed term-limits law so he could stay in office.
-Bloomberg LP, defeated William Thompson Jr. 51 percent to 46 percent.
-In the days leading up to the election, polls showed Bloomberg with as much as an 18-point lead, an edge so big that critics accused the mayor of overkill in his strategy of bombarding the city with campaign ads.
-When all the bills are paid, Bloomberg will probably have spent more than $100 million on his campaign, the most expensive self-financed campaign in U.S. history. Thompson, the city’s comptroller, relied on donations and matching funds for his mayoral bid, and was on track to have spent about a tenth of Bloomberg’s staggering total.
-“This campaign was about defying conventional wisdom … this campaign was about standing strong, standing tall and never backing down in the face of a formidable challenge,” Thompson said after conceding defeat.

Thompson ran up huge margins in black and Hispanic neighborhoods, winning by a 3-to-1 margin in some districts.

He beat Bloomberg handily in predominantly black neighborhoods like Bedford-Stuyvesant in Brooklyn and Jamaica in Queens. He won Harlem and East Harlem easily, along with other heavily Hispanic districts in upper Manhattan and the Bronx.
-This is on the link that i had posted on the bottom of this page.It shows a reason why bloomberg basically one mayor again and it shows the effort that Thompsomn has put in for the people and their communities unlike Bloomberg who just get away with things by just taking money out of his pockets. After Bloomberg won the election alot of people were shocked as for others they werent so happy.

    2) Look up “exit polls.” List two main reasons people said they voted for Bloomberg. Also, list two main reasons why people said they voted for Thompson.
M.B: The people for now are just intrested in the way money is being involed in every situation so the fact that bloomberg has put 90 milion of his own fortune into the race the people feel like he is going to be more helpful in that persective.
B.T: Simply the citiens wanted a change and wanted for the new mayor to make better changes everything they were looking foward is a change.
    3) Which boroughs had a majority vote for Thompson? The percentage of boroughs that voted for Bill Thompson was Brooklyn, Bronx, And Queens.

    4) Which boroughs had a majority vote for Bloomberg? Michael Bloomberg percentage of the boroughs that voted was Staten Island and Manhattan.

    5) Why was the election so close? Look up two different theories and make sure to include where you got your information from. Alot of the people that voted for bloomberg were intrested in the fact that he has money and that they are scared to make a change from the bad to the horrible, but in the other hand other citizans wanted the change because they felt like bloomberg was not reaching his goals. Thompson had a great change of winning but , the Boroughs that voted for him have more power.

the reason that the coverage reflected a belief that Mr. Bloomberg would win without breaking a sweat was that Mr. Thompson did not present an alternative narrative ;media organizations covering the race thought a Bloomberg victory was foregone and covered it.

    3) Which boroughs had a majority vote for Thompson?
Bill Thompson on the borough was brooklyn ; bronx ; qnz

    4) Which boroughs had a majority vote for Bloomberg?
    staten island & manhattan

    5) Why was the election so close? Look up two different theories and make sure to include where you got your information
There’s a major gap between the leaders and the led. Bloomberg collected a mountain of endorsements, from labor unions, editorial pages, churches
*The voters got it right. Thompson’s campaign and record did not inspire confidence that he was ready to run the city in hard times.

1.) Julissa Ferreras is my new city council member.
2.) People voted for bloomberg because of the increase in education help. There was no other reason why they voted for bloomberg. People voted for thompson because bloomberg bought his place he didn’t work for it like thompson would do.
    3.) Brooklyn, bronx, and queens.
    4.) Staten island and Manhattan
5.) The mayor Beat Thompson by a margin of only five percenatge points.

    1) Who is your new city council?
My city council is Julissa Ferreras.

2)Look up “exit polls.” List two main reasons people said they voted for Bloomberg. Also, list two main reasons why people said they vited for Thompson.
One reason why people say they voted for Bloomberg is because Thompson was portrayed as a person who gambles with New Yorkers’ pension money. Another reason why people voted for Bloomberg is because they said that when Bloomberg became mayor in 2001 he bettered the education and that scores increased. They believed that if Thompson took over then that would change negatively. As for Thompson, one reason people voted for him is because the people said that eight years was enough and that Bloomberg should step down. Another reason being that the people said that Bloomberg overturned the people’s voice when it came to term limits.

    3) Which boroughs had a majority vote for Thompson?
Brooklyn and the Bronx were the boroughs that had a majority vote for Thompson.

    4) Which boroughs had a majority vote for Bloomberg?
Bloomberg had the majority vote in Staten Island, Queens, and Manhattan.

    5) Why was the election so close? Look up two different theories and make sure to include where you got your information from.
One theory that shows that the mayoral election was so close was that while Bloomberg dropped crime rates, bettered education and along other things, Thompson built his campaign around the fact that people were angry about Bloombergs extension of term limits. So with people voting for both Bloomberg and Thompson for different reasons, made this election get extrememly close.

Another theory would be that Bloomberg received fewer votes than what he obtained four years ago. This in turn made the election get close.

Julissa Ferreras is my new city council member. An exit polls is a area poll conducted by asking people how they voted as they leave the voting place, designed to give an early indication of the result of an election. Some people thought they wanted a change from Bill Thompson and some just wanted to stay with Michael Bloomberg. The percentage of Bill Thompson on the borough was Brooklyn, Bronx, And Queens. Michael Bloomberg percentage of the boroughs was Staten Island and Manhattan. The mayor Beat Thompson by a margin of only five percenatge points. http://ny1.com/1-all-boroughs-news-content/108435/bloomberg-visits-brooklyn-voter-in-wake-of-close-win

1.) My new city council member is Tony Avella

2.)One of the main reasons people voted for Mike Bloomberg is because he has more experience he has served for 8 years, Another reason is he has helped decrease crime & help with the economy and jobs. People voted for Bill Thompson for a change , Mike Bloomberg has been mayor for 8 years and people wanted a change, People also voted for Bill Thompson because Bloomberg was cutting off taxes on rich people and not doing anything for the poor or middle class.

3.) The Bronx & Brooklyn had the majority votes for Bill Thompson

4.) Manhattan, Queens & Staten Island had the majority votes for Mike Bloomberg

5.)There were many voters for Bill Thompson because they wanted change, but Bloomberg came and did a very big campaign which brought him to almsot as many voters as Bill Thompson.

1.) Julissa Ferreras is my new city council member.

2.)”exit polls” are surveys of a small percentage of voters taken after they leave their voting place.
M.B.- 70 percent of voters said they “approved of his job performance.”
    – People thought that we are in a tough situation with the economy & didn’t want to risk it by changing mayor. Other people thought he was doing pretyy good & just voted for him a 3rd time.

    B.T.- People wanted a change
    – People thought it was untraditional of Bloomberg to change the limit for mayors.

3.)The boroughs that had the majority vote for Thompson was Brooklyn, the Bronx,& Queens.

4.)The boroughs that had the majority vote from Bloomberg are Staten Island, & Manhattan.

5.)The closeness of the race might be linked to (FIRST THEORY) what voters considered Bloomberg’s “heavy-handed move” to overturn term limits. Also (SECOND THEORY) his incessant campaigning & advertisments. They called it a campaigning “war-chest.”
