I find this disturbing in so many ways. There is no ways a person can look like that and maintain a healthy life. First of all, this is sending terrible messages to young kids because they will start to think that they are fat and want to start dieting when they are perfectly fine. This company cannot even find models who are the right body size because they had to photo shop the photos.

-Sadly, women are very much abused in the world of modeling as in almost all areas of the professional world. The norm of women striving for the ideal bodies of magazine images is driving the profits and ratings of these fashion industries, but at the cost of medically hurting ourselves is unacceptable. I agree with Ossario that, rather then conforming to these impossibly ridiculous standards, we need to approach this issue through demonstrations, “calling out companies,” and maybe enforce legislation. The disclaimer idea does sound appealing.

This was incredibly eye-opening for me. I mean, of course I know every image you see is photo shopped, but when you see the actual before and after – amazing. And it makes me feel better about myself and how my clothes fit! I think it would be a HUGE thing if little girls were shown things like this in school – before and after pictures, so they know the reality is far removed from what they see, especially because it is so easy to forgety

This article isabout how people were protesting Ralph Lauren’s commercials. I think its horrible how skinny they look and i don’t see why they would put that up knowing it affects women of all age and causes diseases. It was very irresponsible of the producers of these commercials to put those models up and even photoshop them to make them look worse. In my opinion the girls don’t even look good like that and makes the clothes look horrible. I also find it funny how they guys body is normal, not to big or anything but the girl looks lies shes about to break. This is a huge problem that america’s youth faces and has to be taught that this is’t the real way beutiful girls look.

Omg! where to begin? I think the images look horrible. They do in fact look extremely photoshopped. I feel that if it wasnt because the close is actually appealing i wouldnt purchase from Ralph Lauren. What the purpose of promoting clothing in such form that the average women doesn’t categorize into. This can cause a female to go into depression because of her “120 over weight image” and perhaps become anorexic . If only they knew theyre not only affecting the teens now theyre affecting the future making young females believe that this is the image to die for.

For me these pictures were really disturbing since the photos of the models have been tampered with by photoshop. I think that those pictures are settting a unhealthy for the futures models and since many young teens look up to this models as role models. This photos are going to cause many teens to stop eating, or get into an unhealthy diet to get as skinny as Ralph Lauren. I agree with the people who are protesting againt this photoshops.

This article didn’t really surprise me. It didn’t surprise me because in society that’s what people think is pretty or what sells. Skinny sells so that’s what society feeds into. People, mostly females feel this is what people want. Being as skinny as these girls are doesn’t look anywhere near beautiful or healthy. In my opinion this is a negative image being put out into the world. Beauty is suppose to be something that comes from within not a pretty face or a nice body.

I think that what people in the modeling industry are doing with their models photos is very disturbing and disgusting. It’s sad towards the fact that the image they are putting out there for younger girls its something they are going to want to compete against. It’s like saying that the women of today should be anorexia and that is very wrong. If it’s a bad thing that little girls think that being on a diet is the most important thing right now. If every women was to look up to those advertisements we would all have eating disorders

What I think about this article is just the truth that many companies hide to try and make a women look perfect they think is right to use Photoshop and show to the world someone that is not quite real I think that every girl is beautiful in all their diffrent ways everyone has their own Beauty I have notice that alot of people depend on the media and are always fallowing what magazines write and publish and some women had very low self steam and they get mad or feel very bad that they want to depend on someone that is not really true I think that modeling agencies or anything that has to do with companies that deal with women and represent us should show the real side not something that they dream and at the end they are crashing other girls dreams making them feel like they dont belong when everyone should feel good with them selfs .

    This alticle shoked me =0
I find it very wrong for clothing companies to demonstrate the beauty of woman to be only skinny. All women are beautiful no matter how tall or fat they are.All women should be happy with the way they are.And if this is not the case then women should consider going into healthy diets and exercising to look the way they feel confortable in.Why is it that only skinny people could shop at these stores?
Not all the women are the same.If i was one of these models i would certanly be mad with the way they photoshopped my pictures. If they didnt like they way i looked why did they even bother to contract me for the company. These companies only wish to make you feel bad so you start to buy more of there products and feel “skinny”.

I think it is VERY messed up and stupid. These people are messing up peoples mind and health trying to make money. It is not only affecting the models that work for them it also affects girls that see the models. The reason why it affects girls is because when they see these models looking soooo “nice” it makes the girls feel ugly and their self esteem will get low sometimes to a point that they become anarexic.Umm i dislike fake people and those advertisers are FAKE.

In my opinion I believe what they are doing is wrong because they are affecting the lives and health of people, especially women. Almost everything that we see today in magazines and posters are all retouched but in a way that is affecting others. They make women look so skinny that they don’t even look pretty. With Photoshop you can do a lot of good things such as graphic design and fixing the quality of a picture but as we can see there are people that use it a bad way because they manipulate the body of a woman to make it look different. It’s ok to fix a lighting error in the picture but to retouch the person’s figure that it’s not acceptable. I agree with the protestors because they are doing the right thing in trying to change how things in the media work. I hope this entire thing of retouching stops very soon and if a woman wants to look healthier and prettier instead of not eating they should eat right and exercise that’s the best thing they can do for their physical appearance, mental health and their health in general.

The article Women Protest Ralph Lauren’s Ridiculous Photoshop is really amazing crazy because they do this alot where they try to put model that look unhealthy into fashion and in magazine. Around 30 protesters held a rally outside Ralph Lauren’s NYC flagship to demand that the company stop using images of models who’ve been Photoshopped into unreality for its advertisements. Protest organizers said they even envision a legislative solution. I think the images are bad and i really dont like it.

i was shocked at the photo of the model and proud that there were protesters outside the Ralph Lauren shop. I think America is obsessed with beauty and body image which is very sad. Many girls want to live up to that image but they don’t know that no one out there can look so perfect it is all photoshoped. Now girls at a younger age are stressing about their weight because of the skinny models shown on tv.Its all fake! And it kinda makes me mad to see that the media is not ashamed of this and they keep doing the same thing

What a stocking article, it kinda reminds me of the dove commercial, just because it shows that no one looks exactly how the photographers or the media wants. That no one is perfect. I believe that everyone should be very comfortable with there body type, and not let anyone bring them down. Anorexia is a very serious disease that I believe no one should have or believe that that’s what they have too do to be on a billboard of Ralph Lauren or any other company. I think it is very upsetting.

These companies are playing with the health of women. how can they think that being a walking skeleton is sexy? that’s sad, and sick. we look at this perfect skinny women, and we look at our self and be immediately think that we have to lose weigh because we are too fat. i admit i have had thought of that, and i bet most of the women out there had had too. this is not healthy that’s why there are so many eating disorders, because some women do take it to seriously and they basically became obsessed with being skinny and become anorexic and die before age 22, just to be like the “perfect” skinny magazine model. which in reality we are looking at alien’s, because that magazine model doesn’t exists. anorexia is a serious thing, and its growing more and more thanks to this photo-shop photos. =( sad, sad..

    December 22, 2009 at 11:29 pm

In my opinion I think its pathetic and wrong. I think that because the pictures were Photoshopped and it makes the girls look anorexic. Its okay for a model to be skinny but they crossed the line. The real models don’t look like that, now and days the manipulation of photographs is as old as photography. What used to be achieved with darkroom techniques, airbrushing, dodging and burning, or negative-splicing, is now achieved, in much less time, with Photoshop tools.I think what the protesters did was the right thing to do because they really make models look bad. So I think that the company should take another picture of the “real models” and put that as their advertisements or company pictures.

At the time i was reading this article it made me wish i could of had been there protesting against this disgusting reality that many modeling agencies have done to us women making us believe we are ugly, we are too fat and that we should make ourselves look anorexic so we can consider ourself beautiful. Seriously its so true many girls start making diets at a young age thinking because of their “weight” they cant be accepted by society which is a big lie this is causing them to only worry on how they look. The models from the ads and magazines are seem to be “Perfect” but this can only be done with the magic of Photoshop, with this computer program many things can be change in a picture making changes on the way we look making ourselves look skinnier, taller etc.. and because everything that has been said was so true we should all think before we open a magazine if the “beauty” we admire is going to affect us, because many girls put their selfs teem down when they observe such perfect girl who is not real but inside us we wish we were them so we can finally feel beautiful this is truly sad, I am so against this because am one of the many girls out there who has been affected by this LIE i used to have a eating disorder and it was so hard to get out of that and finally open my eyes to reality and stop thinking of getting surgeries diets etc… The documentary America The Beautiful, which touched on the story of the model Gerren Taylor made me also realize been a model its very hard because the way modeling agencies treats them when they are not the RIGHT Weight its very unfair making them think they are useless for their company and their advertisement

After reading this article I was astonished. It’s true that now a days every single picture we see in a magazine has been photoshopped so that it looks like the “perfect” figure. It’s really sad to know that when other girls see these women on magazines, they want to have a body just like theirs. Yet these womens on the magazines aren’t real. Almost every single part of their body was photoshopped to look “perfect”. I think that something should be done to stop ads from photoshopping pictures so that it makes the woman look anorexic. Thats why more and more girls are starting to diet at an early age. It’s because they are surrounded by all these ads.

  23. December 22, 2009 at 9:46 pm

This article was crazy to me! I really can’t belive you have to look like a twig in order to be perfect model. This basically makes women’s self esteem go lower and make them go anorexic and thinking their fat by photoshopping their photographs to make them look skinnier. In my opinion if a designer is trying to make their clothes look good by making these models look anorexic , I think it looks disgusting and scary looking. I also find it disrespectul and offensive to those women because they are changing the way their body looks meaning they are not satisfied with the way they look to be a model. Take photographs of real women and their real bodies!

The article was about how 30 protesters held a rally outside Ralph Lauren’s NYC flagship. They were protesting outside in the cold because they want people to know that the models who have been photoshopped into unreality for advertisements. The people get mad because Ralph Lauren wants to sell clothes but there models are not healthy looking. When I saw the ads on the article and saw all those models looking very thin i thought to myself is that possible? These protesters just want to make women feel better because not only because your skinny you are pretty everyone is pretty in the outside and the inside.

The images were kind of scaring. I mean I want to be skinny, but not scary, unhealthy looking skinny. They are basically making anorexia into a fashion statement & that’s not right. Anorexia is a disease & so many women strive for it because these models look like it. But the thing is that that’s not even the real models, they’re being photoshopped. The real them isn’t even on the magazine because they “correct” or modify every little detail. I saw the before & after picture of the little girl, seriously, they’re being over-analytical. Like seriously, she’s still a baby, & that’s why the ages are lower & lower when you hear about little girls whose main concern is their figure, when a little girl should just be playing outside or in the playground or whatever 8 year old girls should be doing. It’s ridiculous & they should make it into a law.
